Exhibition : “Shinobazu Wonder 12: The Meetings and Partings of Artists in The Meiji Period”

We will hold an exhibition in Yanaka next month (July 13-15)
“Shinobazu Wonder 12: The Meetings and Partings of Artists in The Meiji Period”
at Denchu Hirakushi House and Atelier (2-20-3 Sakuragi Ueno, Taito-ku)

This exhibition introduces the history and personal stories of art-related people who lived and held activities in the Shinobazu Area (Okachimachi, Yushima, Yanaka, Nezu, Sendagi centering around Ueno and Hongo) in the Meiji period (late 19th century-early 20th century). By focusing on twelve people with genius and eccentric characters, just like supernatural power “Wonder Artists”, the exhibition will highlight how their teamed, fought in the Ueno battlefield (exhibitions and small-scaled society), and departed from the old groups to promote different ideals and stage this “meeting-and-departing” drama through Liquid Galaxy and AR technology.

Kiyokata Kaburaki 1878-1972
Hakutei Ishii, 1882-1958
